It’s increasingly becoming common knowledge that drugs marketed as antidepressants can cause serious adverse effects, including withdrawal problems and akathisia. A new study of SSRIs now finds that long-term SSRIs use can cause heart problems. “A new study, published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine, found that exercise was just as good at treating depression as antidepressant drugs, at least for those with mild or moderate symptoms. Adding antidepressant drugs to exercise did not increase effectiveness—exercise alone was just as good.”

SSRIs, such as Paxil and Zoloft, should never be abruptly stopped. Doing so can cause withdrawal akathisia which can cause violence and medication-induced suicide. Today’s New York Times article is disturbing, given that the pharma clinical trial instructs menstruating women to take the drugs for only 2 weeks per month.

Zoloft, an SSRI sold by Pfizer pharmaceuticals, can cause akathisia & iatrogenic death even when taken as directed by people who were given the drug off-label and not for depression.
